Overview

Don't let mystery devices stay a mystery. Take control of your wireless environment with the purpose-made Device Finder Directional Antenna and track down offending devices with quickness and surety. Designed in-house by MetaGeek, this antenna gives you greater ability to discover exactly which direction a 2.4 GHz transmission is coming from. Standard antennas found in most wireless devices are omni-directional, so they receive signals from all directions. This can be useful, but when you need to find out where interference is coming from, a directional antenna can pinpoint your mystery device.

The Device Finder 2.4 GHz Directional Antenna is just what it sounds like — attach it to the Wi-Spy and point it in any given direction to quickly track down troublesome interferers.

The Device Finder is a 2.4 GHz Directional Antenna that acts as an “RF flashlight” for Wi-Spy. Discovering a transmitting device is as easy as selecting a frequency range in Chanalyzer and following a line. The higher the line goes, the closer you are to finding the source of interference.

The standard antenna in most spectrum analyzers and Wi-Fi receivers is omnidirectional. Omnidirectional antennas receive almost indiscriminately on a horizontal plane, whereas a directional antenna is used in a similar manner to a flashlight – point it to gain visibility in that specific direction.  When performing site surveys, directional antennas minimize the guessing associated with determining where interferers are transmitting from. Instead of going into each room to see if amplitude increases or decreases, Wi-Spy users with a Device Finder directional antenna can rotate it to find higher amplitude levels and walk in the direction until the transmitter is located.
Chanalyzer Users can highlight frequency ranges of a transmitter’s peak signal and track it using a directional antenna. This feature only works in live captures, and is very useful because it gives exact amplitude levels over time – freeing the user from interpreting color ranges.


The process is simple - Highlight a transmitter by clicking and dragging acrossthe Density View. Then Select Device Finder.....A new tab appears with an amplitude over time graph to track down interfering transmitters.smiley

With Device Finder, users can track down any device,no matter if the software identifies the interfering device or not. This method is perfect for transmitters that emit a constant signal, like cordless phones or AV transmitters.

Overview

Network Administrators can now view 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz spectrum data directly from their Cisco CleanAir-enabled access points with Chanalyzer’s remote analysis capabilities. Chanalyzer lists and displays active interferers, and tracks Channel information including Interference Max Power and Air Quality Index. Connect via a CCF file from Cisco Prime, or directly with an IP address and NSI key. Works with access points in Local, Monitor, or SE-Connect modes.
